Haflong, 10 September 2025: HELP Society, in collaboration with the District Mental Health Programme (DMHP), Dima Hasao, organized a Mental Health Awareness Session at Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Boro Haflong, Haflong, to mark World Suicide Prevention Day. The programme underscored the urgent need to prioritize mental well-being, challenge stigma, and empower young people to take proactive steps toward safeguarding their emotional health.

Observed globally, World Suicide Prevention Day serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to address the growing challenge of suicide and promote conversations around mental health. In line with this mission, the session provided students with a safe space to learn, engage, and discuss mental health openly.

The event featured two esteemed resource persons: Shri Manohar Thaosen, Master Trainer on Child Mental Health, Dima Hasao, and Dr. Jubilee Darnei, Senior Medical & Health Officer and District Programme Officer, DMHP, Dima Hasao. Their sessions shed light on child and adolescent mental health, recognizing early signs of distress and the importance of timely intervention. Both highlighted that seeking help is an act of courage and that breaking the silence is central to suicide prevention.

The session drew active participation from the Principal, teachers, and a large number of students of Saraswati Vidya Mandir. Volunteers from HELP Society also played a vital role in making the programme interactive and impactful, ensuring students engaged meaningfully with the discussions.
Speaking on the occasion, representatives from the HELP Society emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in addressing mental health challenges. They noted that schools, families, communities, and organizations must work together to create an environment where mental well-being is nurtured, stigma is dismantled, and individuals feel encouraged to seek support.

The Principal and teachers of Saraswati Vidya Mandir expressed their appreciation to HELP Society and DMHP for organizing such an essential initiative. They remarked that the session equipped students with both knowledge and confidence to face emotional challenges and extend empathy to their peers.
HELP Society extended heartfelt gratitude to all stakeholders and reaffirmed its commitment to continuing awareness programmes on mental health, drug prevention, and youth empowerment. The organization reiterated its vision of contributing to a more compassionate and resilient society.

The programme concluded with a collective pledge by participants to support one another, foster open dialogue on mental health, and build a future rooted in care, compassion, and understanding.
