24.02.2026, Haflong, Dima Hasao || HELP Society, in collaboration with the National Center for Vector Borne Diseases Control (NCVBDC), Department of Health & Family Welfare, Dima Hasao, successfully organised a Malaria-cum-Dengue Awareness Camp at Zaikangram Village, Haflong on the 24th February 2026. The initiative was conducted as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen public health awareness and prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases in rural areas of Dima Hasao district, Assam.

The awareness camp focused on educating villagers about the causes, symptoms, prevention, and control of malaria and dengue, two serious mosquito-borne diseases that often increase during the monsoon and post-monsoon seasons. Health representatives explained how malaria is transmitted through the bite of infected Anopheles mosquitoes, while dengue spreads through Aedes mosquitoes that commonly breed in stagnant water around homes and public spaces.

During the interactive session, community members were informed about the common symptoms of malaria and dengue, including high fever, severe headache, joint and muscle pain, vomiting, and weakness. The importance of early detection and timely medical treatment was strongly emphasized to prevent complications. Residents were advised not to ignore persistent fever and to immediately visit nearby health facilities for proper diagnosis and care.

The programme also highlighted practical and simple preventive measures that every household can adopt. Villagers were encouraged to eliminate stagnant water from containers, flower pots, old tyres, and rooftops, maintain cleanliness in their surroundings, use mosquito nets and repellents, and keep water storage containers properly covered. The session reinforced the message that community participation and environmental hygiene are key to controlling mosquito breeding and reducing disease transmission.

The Anganwadi worker and village authorities extended full support to ensure the smooth conduct of the awareness camp and active participation from the local community. Their involvement played a crucial role in spreading the message of health, hygiene, and disease prevention at the grassroots level.
HELP Society NGO expressed heartfelt gratitude to the representative from NCVBDC, the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Dima Hasao, the Anganwadi worker, village leaders, and all community members who contributed to the successful organisation of the programme.
